Madonna has a message for people who tell her to act her age

Madonna landed onto the 1980s pop scene by pushing boundaries with her provocative dress sense, unapologetic sexuality and numerous controversies including offending the catholic church. And as she has got older, she’s showed no sign of slowing that down, much to her loyal fanbase’s delight.

But she has also long been faced with critics who have decried her wardrobe choices and stage by urging her to "act her age", a subjective term which Madonna has had enough of.

Sharing a photo of herself sucking her thumb on Instagram, the 58-year-old condemned “woman hating bigots” who repeatedly use the phrase towards her.

“How do I know I’m still acting my age?” she wrote. “Because it’s MY age and it’s MY life and all of you women hating bigots need to sit down and try to understand why you feel the need to limit me with you down fear of what you aren’t familiar with.

“You know what happens to Bigots? NOTHING! Nothing happens to people who think in a limited way. Facts… but I forgive you.”

She then shared a series of photos of herself through the years with the caption: "Acting my age".

Madonna has long hit back at criticism of her which she deems ageist. After garnering fashion criticism for wearing a sheer Ricardo Tisci Givenchy dress, at this year’s prestigious Met Gala, the "Like a Virgin" singer said the dress was a political statement against sexism and ageism.

“The fact that people actually believe a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous past a certain age is proof that we still live in an ageist and sexist society,” she wrote on Instagram.
